Workshop on the Future of Urbanization and Informality in African Cities

The Future of Urbanization and Informality in African Cities workshop is a two-day blended event that will take place on the 22nd and 23rd of March 2023, at the University of Cape Town Graduate Business School, Cape Town, South Africa, and on the Zoom Platform.

The objective of the workshop is to examine the future of cities in Africa regarding informality, inequality, affordable housing, and resilient housing infrastructure towards uncovering and better understanding the nature and scope of the challenges/issues as well as possible solutions within the context of South Arica and the rest of Africa.

The workshop is hosted by the South African Hub of the ARUA Centre of Excellence in Urbanization and Habitable Cities, University of Cape Town, and the African Research Network for the ARUA CoE in Urbanization and Habitable Cities at the University of Lagos (Housing and Regeneration Cluster)

  1. Professor Edgar Pieterse, Faculty Member, University of Cape Town, African Centre for Cities.
  2. Emeritus Professor Jan Wium, Chair in Construction Engineering and Management at the Department of Civil Engineering, Stellenbosch University.
  3. Professor Ivan Turok, Research Chair in City-Region Economies, South African DSI/NRF, University of the Free State.
